Rented for 2 weeks a spacious home in Highlands NC. Quite costly but OK as we were having our children and grandchildren visit. House was architecturally lovely and very well appointed (Except vacuum was battery operated and would hold charge for < 5 minutes). But house was very dirty upon arrival. Food ( I.e. obvious peanut butter and jelly smeared on silverware in drawer, filthy indoor grill (someone grilled steaks and was never cleaned), lipstick and fingerprint smeared glass ware, and indoor and outdoor grill (indoor oven surface and grease pit actually blue with mold, never cleaned). Pot with caked-on spaghetti sauce, interior base of cabinets dirty and crumbs and debris. Plates, glassware, pots, pans all had to be cleaned before we could use them. Wall switches throughout all had dirty brown smears (almost non-sensical), but no way was this property ever “ Covid sanitizedâ€. Two TV’s didn’t work including main floor - which had to be replaced four days after arrival; hot tub would not get hot or even warm, service person called to repair; downstairs A/C broken due to fan malfunction so no A/C for the first week until repair person diagnosed and later replaced fan. And to our surprise - no A/C in the over-the-garage guest bedroom. But these was not the bigger concern -and my tipping point. After 6 months of not seeing our kids and grandkids we arranged for a two week remote haven in this Highlands property. Unfortunately, by the second week our two granddaughters developed uncomfortable rashes. Each day they were getting worse. Finally, three days before scheduled, our kids had to leave due to the spreading and worsening rashes. We thought it must be poison ivy or oak from hiking, but Benadryl didn’t help. Finally the parents had to take teenage girl home to their doctor due to spreading rash “all overâ€. Their Atlanta dermatologist diagnosed as “absolutely†flea bites, made worse by day after day exposure. When we reported this to the rental management we were told it was impossible due to their no dog policy and security cameras. Again——all our problem. They said that terminex would check couches. But that we “should see fleas jumping if that was the issueâ€. We are a patient understanding retired couple. It was absolutely infuriating that our concerns were disregarded by the rental management. “Never had this house keeping problem beforeâ€. “Can’t be fleas, we’ll ask Terminex to checkâ€. But they could not refute broken TV’s, no hot in hot tub, A/C not working in lower floor for week. Was there any expression of concern or desire to make things right??? None. I asked for some rebate of high cleaning fee or due to due to lack of use if property as we had paid for none. Our kids left early due to fleas, paid for dermotologist and prescription. Any feedback from rental management company? Only denial - and then silence. Very unprofessional.

We have been renting direct from Alicen for many years. The process through the CCP website is easy, properties are always as described, and booking direct avoids many extra fees that accrue using vacation rental websites.
