J Michael Pope

Several years ago, I picked up my daughter's guitar that was gathering dust in her closet and went to Michael with the idea of learning to play a bit. He has helped me more than fulfill my modest musical aspirations. He provides support, while gently challenging you as a student to continuous improvement. It has allowed me to grow musically every day!

Michael is a great teacher. He begins with the student's goals in mind and tailors his teachings to get the student where they want to be through a combination of exercises, music theory, and practice. I have worked with several area teachers who were eager to show how good they were on their instrument, but Michael is not like that. Instead, he takes his wealth of musical talents and skills and focuses those on the student to make sure that they are comfortable and learning at their own pace. I encourage you to take lessons from Michael. You will be amazed at how great you can be.

Michael is a gifted musician and a compassionate teacher. He can sense what the individual student's needs are and he provides the perfect tools and exercises to move students in the right direction. He helped me to rekindle my singing voice by boosting my confidence and realizing my innate ability.

Michael Pope has helped me check an item off my bucket list: Learn to play the banjo. He teaches not only the banjo but other fretted instruments. I believe I am receiving training in good technique but Michael also teaches with a gentle approach. I find this valuable and others must too, because I observed numerous baby boomers in his studio. His lessons are also offered at a convenient time for my daytime schedule.

Michael is an amazing teacher! I came to him with no musical background whatsoever looking for help to learn to play the banjo. He is very gentle and patient but at the same time he challenges you and helps you push through your own barriers so that you can be successful. He is able to pick up on how you handle difficulties and then adapts his teaching techniques to help you do your best. You can tell that his interactions are different with every student, depending on what he needs to do in order to make each student successful. I highly recommend classes with Michael!
