A fine museum with rotating displays of Hugh Mangum's early photography - think 1880s. The man's story is too involved to get into here, but he was a fascinating person who left behind a sizable legacy. And you can't beat the pricing - entry to West Point on the Eno - $0. Parking at West Point - $0. Entry into the Hugh Mangum Museum of Photography - $0. The way Durham NC invests tax money - PRICELESS.

This museum displays photography and early 20th-century camera equipment. They also feature contemporary exhibits featured on a rotating basis. Hugh Mangum was an interesting man. At the turn of the 20th Century, when life was incredibly difficult for the African-American community in the photographer used his camera to challenge racial barriers and capture the southern states of the US, this self-taught photographer used his camera to challenge racial barriers and capture the diversity of the American South. A great tribute to a courageous and compassionate photographer.
