I was hoping the new location would improve things, but it's still overpriced and mediocre.

I hate to say it, but I think the Cracker Barrel is better.

This restaurant was recommended to us by my mother, who was referred by locals. We went by for breakfast one morning. It's a family friendly restaurant with southern cooking and specialties. The hashbrowns are deep fried chunked potatoes. We both ordered an omelette. The omelette was cooked well, but wasn't seasoned very well. The biscuits were fantastic, and grits and pancakes were good. Servers were friendly. It would have been nice to have some more selection for breakfast.

10-5-2013 I have eaten at Mountain House for years and have enjoyed almost every visit. I loved it when they were over where Wal-greens is now but you can't stop progress. The only bad experiences I've had were at there second location (now Cracker Barrel), but any restaurant can have a bad day. The New Market Center location is not the best location in the world as far as visibility of the establishment goes but I have been very satisfied every time I've eaten at this location. One of my favorite dishes has moved from the twice a week menu to the daily menu! I love the breaded tomatoes! For many years you could only get them twice a week and I always seemed to be there the day before or the day after, and believe me they NEVER had any leftovers. I ate there yesterday and got the Short Rib Lunch Special with fried squash and breaded tomatoes....Excellent! My little boy had the mac and cheese, my little girl had the cheeseburger ( it was huge!), both from the kids menu....then we did have to split a piece of the blueberry cream cheese pie. The last few times we have been in we have gotten the same man as a waiter and he has been great. DISCLAIMER!!!! I did give the Mountain House 5 stars and here is why 1) I'm not claiming it to be a Ruth's Chris or McCormick & Shmicks and I'm not comparing them. 2) This is a Old Fashioned meat and 2 veggie type place. It's clean, relatively quick, reasonably priced, and good food. 3) The Mountain House IS a Legendary Boone Eatery as is the Daniel Boone Inn ( you really should go to both of these while visiting Boone....DBI is more expensive though).
