As a person who enjoys fine dining, loves to cook and eat food from every culture, I would never eat at La Marmite again. Do not waste your money in this establishment. I have eaten at other French establishments on the island and in comparison, La Marmite was a failure. To start, the menu was very small and a hamburger should not be a main entree in a french restaurant. The pasta dishes are all italian which doesnt make sense to me being that this is a French restaurant. There were actually very little French dishes to chose from in the first place. I tried the potato pancake appetizer with my lovely sweetheart and expected to at least have two pancakes to accomodate both of us. However the 12$ appetizer came with one pancake of a bout a 4" diameter that we had to split. There was some lox that came with it, but nothing above super market grade. A strange thing was that there was nobody there at 745 but two other tables in a vast dining area. There was also no music playing at all, so your background was other peoples conversation which was just awkward. I use to cook in a restaurant and the proper way to handle an entree is to start it a few minutes after the appetizers went out, and not at the same time. If you start it at the same time, then that means that your meal will be sitting under the heat lamp until you are ready for it. When our entrees came to the table, the plate was very hot from sitting under the heat lamp. When I pay for an expensive meal, I dont want it sitting around for 30 minutes under a heat lamp. I ate the rack of lamp which was tasty, but the side dishes were bland and boring. My girlfriend had the artic char which was something I coud have made at home in about 15 minutes. Her dish was hardly something I would even want to pay for. We actually got our entrees wrapped up halfway through dinner in hopes that we could finish our night somewhere enjoyable. This place was a waste of time and money. I go out to fairly often and have experienced many restaurants, I usually dont have anything bad to say, and for me to bother to spend my time writing a negative review only shows how much I was displeased.

We recently celebrated my daughters 22nd BD at La Marmite. From start to finish, it was outstanding. The décor, the service (our waiter Victor), the meal, our cocktails & wine-Everything, top-notch. What a wonderful dining experience the 4 of us had in this beautiful relaxed setting. Elegant and comfortable. It was perfect. Will be back for sure-and SOON

This is the place where we went when I proposed to my wife 30 years ago. We went here regularly, until the kids came. First we went on our anniversary. Then the dinner was always first class. French,Northern Italian, huge menu, exceptional specials, and my wife could not wait for the dessert. Went back this past December, new owner, small menu, and almost no dessert menu. Dinner was alright, but not for the price. Sadly, we will not return. Time change's, some good, but not here, sad.

So disappointing. New menu was light on French food and a poor selection of Italian at high prices. Six clams in a pasta with clam sauce was over priced and not cooked well. Salad contained wilted arugula and a scant few tomatoes--also over priced. If I wanted a selection of steak, I would go to a steak house. Where are all the selections we have come to expect from this restaurant? What a shame for a restaurant that some consider a "go to " place for special occasions to be so unusually poor in selection and service. For sure our foursome will not return.
