My background, I have been a nurse for 15 years and have a degree as a masters degree as well as certification as AGNP I went to see Dr. Douglas Wignarajah because my PCP is out of maternity leave. I had a accident where I fell asleep in 8/2024 and DMV would like a medical clearance. I made an initial appointment with him which he shortly called me to cancel my appointment stating not to visit him because I would need a sleep study done. This was even before he took a history of presenting illness from me. Based off of 1 sentence of "I fell asleep". He immediately decides to order a sleep study as he states, "that is the standard of care". I go have the sleep study done and return to him and telling him my story, and he says, "I don't know who you are, it's my first time seeing you, so I can't clear you. I thought the sleep doctor would clear you, so I will refer you to the DMV". When asked for his indications, he states, "I don't know. You may have had a seizure?" but does not proceed to ask if there was any post ictal status, does not question more about what happen to day, any urinary incontinence. His differentials were "I am not sure, so I will refer you to someone else." I should have realized he was trying to pass the buck the first time he canceled my appointment. I understand in this day and age, physicians practice defensive medicine, and would like to have as little liability as possible. I get it. But if you already made your mind you were not going to clear me either way, then why send me for additional unnecessary testing. just fill out the paperwork and send me to the DMV. I have a co-pay so I had to pay 200$ for the sleep study and another 60$ for office visits for an unnecessary test which he ordered without doing a HPI or a physical assessment. Going to him costed my time, stress to do unnecessary testing as well as financial stress of paying for testing that he did not even care about. Funny thing is, Most doctors will pretend to listen to your lungs and heart so they can say they did a physical exam on their chart. He did not do any physical exam at all just listen to my story (did a terrible job with his HPI) and said. Well. Don't feel comfortable. Let me pass the buck." So in conclusion, if you want a PCP who likes to practice defensive medicine and order of tests in hopes of getting an abnormal finding. be sure to visit him
