12/19/19 Do not recommend it as was profiled and discriminated against when stopped in today for the first time at The Red Barn. Received a postcard inviting me to stop in for the Retirement Sale. Came in as wanted to purchase a suit for my brother as a Christmas gift. Mentioned this to the sales clerk, an older woman with brown hair. Asked if she could give me an idea on range of prices for a suit as I did not know. She told me me I should go to the Jones Brothers’ store across the street. Her manner and the way she spoke to me was condescending. She profiled me because I am a Latina woman and assumed I could not afford to buy a suit there. Her manner and words were offensive. How does she know if I can afford a suit? Any person can choose to invest in a high quality suit? The fact that she sent me to go to another store speaks volumes. I asked her the question again and she told me price range on suits between $1800-$2300 and suits on sale ranging from 40%-70%. She told me Jones Brothers and another store sold suits but that “we are the best and having retirement sale”. I said thank you and left. I left the store feeling offended at being profiled. I called the Red Barn about an hour later and asked to speak with the owner. The owner asked who I was. Stated my name is Bibianna. Mentioned to the owner my experience. Expressed not liking how the sales associate assumed I did not have money and how could she know, If I wanted to invest in a quality suit. Stated I was unsure if that was why there was a retirement sale and closing the store. The owner told me The Red Barn has been in business for 56 years and would not have lasted by giving that kind of service. The owner told me “I am sorry if you didn’t feel you were treated as expected and I wish you a Merry Christmas” and then hung up on me. The ironic thing is that this morning I was sharing, spreading the news, and encouraging my work colleagues including my boss to stop in at The Red Barn to check out and to buy suits during the Retirement Sale. It is ironic that I was spreading the word about The Red Barn to then be so rudely treated at my first and last visit there.
