Tala Vera, California-Mexican Cantina

This place is hands down the best Mexican place in Rochester in my opinion. The funny part is, whenever I mention it to people, nobody knows what I am talking about. When I describe to most people where it is, they seem disinterested as soon as I start saying that its Downtown. Well, they are missing out and so are you! In addition to an awesome menu brought from a former California native, the place hosts live music on a regular basis with professional sound. Place is so awesome.....I wish it was open for lunch!

Tacos were better than expected. They said everything made from scratch. Small menu but good. Was there on a Friday and got the Friday only fish tacos, loved them. Should have gone with beans and rice over chips and salsa as side (gf got those and they were great and u get more). Weirdish atmosphere... Not quite a hole in the wall, but rather kinda run down cozyish. Made us pay a cover for a band we didn't watch in the other room. Seems like it'd be decent place to see local bands and get a taco. "rockin taco" was their theme, but they should just change the name all together to rockin taco as I wouldn't say it's really a full Mexican restaurant. Good, but more of a lounge that happens to have good tacos.
