I was with General for over 30 years. I never had a problem with them. Since they merged or were bought out by Petro, I had to have call 3 times and had 3 different service men on the same day to fix it . Finally the last one took care of it. Also, when my contract was up they wanted to charge me over $6.00/gallon for oil. I dropped them immediately.

I have been with them for over 18 years. Since they were bought out by Petro, they have gone downhill fast.
We have been without heat and hot water for the last 3 days. We called them for a service repair and set an appointment 3 times!! They cancelled my service call twice without telling me!! Then when I asked they about it, they came up with lies about how they already came over and knocked on door when we were home all day. Not to mention they are suppose to call before they come. After they dropped my calls a few times they finally gave me another reschedule. Wish I could give them a 0 star.
On top of that, they charge a ridiculous premium on oil. I wonder where my money is going to, because it's not going into the service. Customers beware! I will definitely be looking to switch elsewhere!

I was with General Utilities for twenty years. They got bought out by Petro. I will no longer do business with them. I just found out that I had a contract with out the service contract. They never offered me a service contact and when I found out I did not have it they wanted to charge me $ 225.00. I only had to months left. I would not recommend them. I will look around for a better oil company that thinks of there customers and is honest about what they offer. Please make sure you ask about the service contract, so they package it with the price. I would not recommend them to any one I know.

I had no hot water on July 4th 2022 and I called up them and they came out within 45 minutes from Southampton to my house in Hampton bays. I couldn't believe what great service and it was... a thermocouple went bad... so it had to be fixed and it was taken care of promptly on my service contract. I am amazed at the great service and I know people always complain about things but I can't recommend them highly enough. I've actually had an oil burner and hot water service contract with them over 10 years and have found them to be extremely responsive but this was beyond the call of duty. I could have lasted through one or two cold showers anyway...after all I was married for 10 years.
I have seen the other bad reviews but you should know that another company has bought out General utilities and is doing a great job at least as far as I'm concerned so I certainly would give them a call

I wish i could give them 0 star. they are ripper and never sign with them. Thier customer services are okay but thier heating and oil services are the worst. Also, be careful, if you have ever take any service with them, they will send you huge bill. I am luck that i am done with them
