Living in Hell's Kitchen has its pros and cons. Cons being that you're relatively close to where all the tourists are, and can be limited in the sense of subway accessibility. However, Hell's Kitchen has some amazing restaurants, including the amazing Wondee Siam. This place is the best Thai in Hell's Kitchen hands down, and possibly the best Thai that I've had in the city to date. Wondee Siam is located right on 9th Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd. It's a small little restaurant without any flashy signs, so you might accidentally miss it when walking by. The restaurant isn't large by any means, as there are only about 8 tables for people to dine at. The first time I ate here, I just ordered off of Seamless. My order showed up within 45 minutes, which it should considering I live two blocks away, and tasted amazing. I ordered a complete meal for two. This included: - Tom Yum Soup - Crispy Pork with Basil - Pad Si Ew - Wondee Sampler In total, my meal came out, with tip, to just under $44. My meal, as expected, was damn tasty. I knew that I had to at least stop by and dine-in once to get that nice and fresh taste. My second visit was during lunch. During this time, they have a lunch special for $7.95. Your choice of entree comes with a salad and two spring rolls. What a steal! I decided to go with the pad kee mao w/pork, and an additional order of their amazing, amazing Crispy Pork with Basil. The pad kee mao noodles were cooked just how I like them. They were nice and chewy, and when mixed in with all the veggies and pork, gave off an amazing fresh taste with every bite. The salad is your typical garden salad with miso dressing, and the two springs rolls come with a side of sweet and sour dipping sauce. The absolute best, though, is the crispy pork. Pretty much, it's pork chop diced up into smaller pieces, fried with a spice, and topped off with some basil. If you decide to order anything, this is the thing to get. Hands down my favorite dish here by far. Especially for lunch, this place is an amazing bargain. For $8, you get an entree and appetizer. Not many places can offer that kind of price, married with great tasting Thai food. I've had my share of mediocre Thai in the city, as well, as across the country, and Wondee Siam is definitely a standout. Whether you decide to Seamless a meal, or stop by to dine-in, you won't be disappointed.
