Does anyone know if this place is still open? I have been trying to have lunch here all week and everytime I go it's closed despite the posted business hours saying the place should be open ... so disconcerting ... so far 1 star because they are not open when they say they are! Any recommendations for an indian buffet walking distance to columbia university are appreciated; thanks!

Ajanta Express has become my go-to restaurant for delivery of richly spiced authentic Indian food. I have spoken with the owner/manager who has called right away to offer a substitution when one side item I ordered was not available that evening and even kindly sent me an extra Naan bread for the inconvenience. I almost always order their Chicken Vindaloo—traditionally a very, very spicy dish—and ultra spicy is what I’m looking for—however, they allow you to adjust the spice level to your particular taste from mild to spicy or even extra spicy for an extra $1. Beware of extra spicy though unless you really have the palate for it. I love getting the Garlic Naan to dip in the rich and well-spiced non-milk curry sauce which is tomato based (don’t confuse it with Thai curry, which traditionally contains coconut milk). They use good ingredients and the portions are ample and generous for the price. I never worry whether or not my food will show up. In my experience their delivery has been reliable and on time. They are nice people, make quality dishes and are concerned that the customer is satisfied with the food and receives what they ordered.
