Gentleman Farmer

Came here for dinner. Ordered the bison tartare and venison steak. The tartare was served with toast; bearnaise sauce on the side. It was nice. The "venison steak" was disappointing. It wasn't a steak at all, but rather a stew. It kind of just tasted like an ordinary beef stew. A beef stew might be fine if it were $16, but I wouldn't pay $32 for that. The restaurant was cramped. Possibly the smallest dine-in restaurant I've seen. It felt like being on a plane, in coach. The location isn't great. A nearby street was closed and being dug up. Rivington St. looks like a random back alley. Gentleman Farmer's storefront is hard to notice. The name is printed on the glass windows, but was barely noticeable at night. The bloody mary was so-so. I overheard them asking if they had any more bloody mary mix--so it isn't exactly home-made. They put the bill on an iPad. If you don't like showing the bill to the table, well, too bad.

Came here for an early dinner before a concert. Ordered 3 apps and an entree. The host was very nice, but not very descriptive of wine/alcohol selection. We had an Oregon Pinot noir which in my option wasn’t worth the $$. (Mid $60’s) For apps we had curry snails (so much flavor and different then any other 🐌 I’ve had !) Bison tartare, really on point flavors The beef tongue, which was cooked prefect but needs a Demi/sauce and a crunch aspect And then the rabbit cassoulet, great flavors once again, and a nice amount of 🐰 in it.

The bison tartare and curry snails were absolutely delicious! I wish they had more vegetable dishes/sides on the menu. Really lovely small place, service was excellent.
