Love Soraya's studio. I missed Irish step and was happy to get back into it, but I didn't expect to also meet so many cool people. Classes are open to everyone and all levels, instruction is clear and generous, atmosphere is fun and non-competitive. A breath of fresh air.

I started lessons here in March after little-to-no experience. I started with weekly, private lessons with Soraya. Before, I took one year of lessons in NJ before and wasn't nearly as engaged as I am now. Soraya clearly cares about her students and is very encouraging, even on my not-so-great days. She made it obvious how much she wanted me to develop and now I am an intermediate-level dancer learning hard shoe. If I want, Soraya dances right next to me until I get comfortable with the dance, which helps me learn easier. Also, I never feel embarrassed when I mess up because of how nice Soraya and the 3 substitutes are.Today, I had a substitute named Andrea who was very friendly. I am usually shy right off the bat and am nervous with new people, but she was very upbeat and made me feel confident right off the bat. Andrea taught me a new hard shoe step that was difficult to wrap my head around at first, but she danced next to me and called out the steps until I got the dance on my own. We also worked on transitioning from right foot to left foot in a hard shoe step. I danced the whole thing to music for the first time during her lesson. A couple weeks ago, I had a substitute named Claire, who I made a great connection with. She was very outgoing and peppy. She taught me a new step for the slip jig that I had never learned before and was able to dance to music right away! Once I felt comfortable, I took a few group lessons with Soraya (and one time with Lauri Ann). I also went to a few group events. These are the NICEST people I have ever met. Everyone wants to be friends and encourages each other. I have never seen a dynamic like this before. Lauri Ann was a great teacher during that class. While there were about 10 students, I still felt like I got sufficient attention and learned something new that day. Soraya does the same thing in her group lessons. I come out of class every single week feeling excited and confident, which I'm sure is not something you get at every dance school out there. I am so lucky that I found the New York Studio of Irish Step Dance.

Extremely organized and helpful dance school, with each student walking away with class notes and videos following every class - showing the level of individual attention each student receives from this unique program!
