This short street represents an amazing slice of New York history. Most of the buildings here date to the early 19th century, something rare to find in Manhattan, indeed, in all five boroughs of New York, which is so apt to just tear things down and build over them. Far too little sense of history here. This all too apparent when you consider how much of the city's Revolutionary War history and colonial history remains. So it is great to see these buildings, some of them from the 1820s still standing and preserved (at least on the exterior, I have not been inside any of them). It is well worth a trip from anywhere in the city to see them.
