Braemar at Wallkill

The facility itself is gorgeous and immaculate. The staff are rude and have no care or concern for the  residents. When the staff cannot handle a complaint or slight illness they ship the resident out to the local ER rather than deal with them. They also don't attend to the residents that need help as often as they claim that they do. Ask any resident there, they will give you the 411. Even the "patients" in the memory care unit can express a discontent. However what really burned my britches, I am showing my age, was the Activities Director, Joanne. I called prior to thanksgiving to see if there was any volunteer opportunities for my wife and I. Joanne thought this to be fabulous and although she had none available, was curious if I would consider coming to the facility to visit with residents that do not get visitors or have no family. I was sold. I asked Joanne if I could discuss with my wife the logistics and call her back. 4 weeks, 5 phone calls later and Joanne hasn't returned my calls. I even left my last voicemail saying that it's okay if this cannot be done due to policies or guidelines but just call me back and let me know. I confirmed with the front desk staff that she hasn't been out on leave, so this is just pure disregard. I even called the facility director and left two voicemails asking for a follow up.It's bad enough to see how they treat and disregard residents, but to have a person willing to spend time with the elderly and dismiss and disregard them is even more disturbing. I wouldn't trust them to care for my family. Ever.

When my mother was there they were great. When they moved her out, they act like they dont know me or care! They sent her to another place. Tried finding out. Always to busy leave your number. Left my number numerous times. Nothing back????

Yes agree with other posts. This place was originally posted as a senior living facility, but someone we know living there, state it is more like a glorified nursing home! Sad. Once they have you....in your 80+ you are stuck! Research other place is what we've been told.

Dad has relocated from another facility in port jervis and had been neglected and so miserable. He had begged for years to go to braemar and they finally had bed available. He is so happy and is now finally getting the proper therapy he needs to rebuild the muscle that was lost while he stayed at the other facility. Dad is finally smiling. Braemar is beautiful and the other residents have all welcomed him and they all seem so happy and have raved about how wonderful they are treated. I can now sleep easy knowing my dad will be treated with respected and will be cared for like he deserves. Dad is no longer just a bed that is filled, but a person at Braemar!
