The Radio Shack I knew down through the years is DEAD. A real shame. Does anyone even know how it got it's name?
Well, back in the day, when radio was first put on ships, it was usually added on, or retro-fitted onto a sea going vessel. It was usually put into an added wooden structure on top of a metal ship, where it was easier to gain access to the rigging and whatever masts were there to facilitate the addition of antennas for the radio equipment. The wooden structure was called the Radio Shack. Later on, when it was located deeper in the ship, it was called the Radio Room. Some people still call it the Shack.
You used to be able to get some of the best CB radios there. Later on they had Amateur Radio, or Ham radio equipment. As well as antennas for the house or car. Cable mounts all kinds of stuff. And the all along, had some of the best car and home stereo equipment around. If you were into building your own stuff, they had ALL the stuff you needed. Not any more. And not for years. They used to pride themselves with employees who knew what they were talking about. Sad to say, not anymore, and not for years as well. A damn shame.
