We stopped in a whim after a great day of Central New York fall golf. Saw this on the way home and stopped on a whim. No reservations on a Friday but no problem we were accommodated. Menu is spectacular, lots of choices for all. Service was beyond with a guitar player providing a great ambience. Wonderful little place to stop, highly recommended if you are travelling this way.

The Waterwheel is the hidden gem of the fingerlakes. Tucked away in the sleepy little town of Freeville NY, you would never guess that their chef would be capable of such meals. The Salmon Neptune was cooked to perfection. The skin was crispy and the inside was moist and tender. So often you see even the most skilled chefs serve soggy skinned dried out fish. The risotto was soft yet firm just the way it should be. The sauce was creamy yet light with just the right amount of tang. Their wine list has a good assortment for those who like whites or reds. For the tame who like it their wine light and sweet; I recommend the Relax riesling and for those who like a bold tangy buttery red; I recommend the Cooralook shiraz. Cheers and Happy dining!

One of those experiences where our family will never go back. Had a party of 6 for a birthday celebration. Ordered our food and waited a very long time for it to arrive. When it did come, one persons meal was ice cold (they said it was because someone forgot to turn on the heat lamp). Fours of us order Fried Catfish-the special- (because many other things on the menu that night they were out of). When the catfish arrived, it was charred on the outside, and mushy/raw in the middle (as if they put frozen catfish into the fryer and expected it to cook right). Then they completely forgot one of the our dinners. So, while everyone else waited, he to watch everyone else eat. when it finally came, everyone else was done and his wasn't good either. One our our parties fish was not even eaten. When we asked to talk to the owner, they refused to come out. We asked to take off one of the meals because of all the problems, and they said they would give us a single free dessert, as if we want to stay longer and eat more of their food. Needless to say, we did not take them up on the offer and will never be going back there.
