Vesuvio Ristorante

What a find! I work near the Whitestone bridge and rather than deal with traffic one evening we stopped for a meal. Boy were we lucky! The restaurant is unassuming and there is a bar where locals dine and then two restaurant areas. The wait staff were attentive and prompt. One reading of the specials was enough for the fussiest diners. The food is freah and the pasta offering amazing. Reasonable priced and a very relaxing meal. It s now one of our top 5 places to dine out

I attended a Christening at Vesuvio's this past Sunday, (8/5/2012). The restaurant was very hot and uncomfortable. The host of the party asked the manager as to why it was so hot and the owner responded that the air conditioning broke and they were repairing it. They had a portable air conditioner that was only cool if you were within a few feet of it. The manager was asked to provide a fan or other means to cool the more then 60 guests. After a LONG time he did. As it turns out, we later learned that the air conditioning was not working the previous weekend and the owner new of it. He still took no precautions to make the place cooler, When pressed, his seemingly good English skills were lost, he was not fluent any longer. A few people from the waiter staff secretly thanked us for making this an issue to the owner, they said it's been hot for a few weeks and they are forced to work in those conditions. Additionally, the salad was brought to the tables, then the pasta came relativily shortly after, but the meal came at least 45 after that. By the time the cake and coffee were served many guest had left due to the heat. The management was polite but totally unresponsive to the problem. The food was also very good. It just seems disgraceful to me that the management would not have made an effort to improve the conditions of the restaurant, knowing that there were at least two parties planned with many attendees. What should have been a very happy occassion will always be remembered as one on the most uncomfortable days many of us have ever had. If you booking anytime soon, MAKE SURE the air conditioning has been repaired.
