The level of pain I endured during a cystoscopy procedure was horrendous. Im used to (as a woman) my pain is never taken seriously. It felt like the inside of my urethra was getting cut with a knife, the scope was not fitting through and the doctor kept pushing it in. I burst out crying and cried/ yelled for them to PLEASE STOP the procedure and the doctor DID NOT. My body was rejecting it the whole time. I felt extremely out of control and terrified. I was shaking on the table and couldnt wait for them to leave so I could just cry. I came home urinated blood and was and am in excruciating pain when I urinate now. The doctor acted as if it was NORMAL and didnt offer much empathy after what I endured. I assume they thought I was over-reacting.. Funny part is this was the SECOND time Id come in for this procedure. I called in ahead of time and notified that I needed a smaller scope for my bladder (they didnt provide) because last time the doctor had struggle to get it in blaming it on my period, and it was painful as anything. This was 1,000% worse. As if trusting someone to enter the inside of your genital area is not enough. I have gotten occipital nerve blocks, trigger point injections, staples in my head and suffer from chronic pain. I felt so diminished, violated and unheard at this appointment. I dont say this to shame anyone, but to voice something that negatively affected me to promote change. Womans pain is real not historical.
