Dr. Rubenstein is a wonderful doctor and my family is very lucky to have found him. He cares and spends his time getting to know his patients and figuring out the best solution for them. Hes kind, friendly and has a great bedside manner. I highly recommend him. He has helped my family tremendously

Dr. Rubinstein helped me and my son when four other psychiatrists could not. He specializes in complex cases (my son has autism spectrum disorder complicated by a number of factors). And the results have been truly miraculous. My son, who was angry and violent prior to treatment, has become the true person he always was inside: loving, funny, smart and affectionate. Dr. Rubinstein achieved it through a very planned and methodical approach using medication. He is warm, thoughtful, compassionate and incredibly smart. We owe him a great debt of gratitude. He's the best of the best, honestly. I'd never consider going to anyone else. Should you see a counselor separately, too? Absolutely. Psychiatrists prescribe meds and offer some wisdom and guidance, of course, but they are not meant to be a substitute for a trained counselor. The two of them work hand in hand.

I went to him based upon the recommendation of my father who was his colleague and friend. My mother actually grew up with him in Mexico City and I've known this man my entire life. Who better to take care of me and my depression? So I thought. He comes across as caring, supportive, empathetic. Forget about it! There isn't one honest, sincere thing that comes out of this man's mouth. When I asked him if it is alright to stay on Klonopin indefinitely ONLY because I'm physically addicted as I am no longer anxious, he says "3 mg/day isn't unreasonable". Forget about suggesting I see an addiction specialist to help me get off it. Couldn't care less. When I said that every medical site online including the Mayo Clinic list a whole slew of serious side-effects from long-term use of Klonopin he dismisses the internet as a "vast wasteland of misinformation" (never mind what real psychiatrists say about Klonopin). Dr. Rubinstein put me on that drug years ago (prescribing the max dose) never telling me it is extremely physically addictive and prolonged use has very serious ramifications. This man concealed his contempt towards me with what appeared to be sincerity. I got plenty of meaningless affirmations, baseless reassurances, lies about the very real dangers of benzodiazepines, and tons of phony empathy. When I confronted him I saw the real doctor. Ugly! Cursed at me in front of my father - "What the F**K is this?! Original sin?!" - with seething hatred in his eyes after he called me saying "I failed you, I didn't take proper care of you. I'm sorry" followed by a suggestion I bring my father in for what I expected to be an apology to him. So why did the good doctor have even greater contempt towards me than he would have otherwise? He never charged me on account of his friendship with my father. Even so, he resented every minute of the free time I never asked for. As it turns out, the APA's Journal of Ethics states "it is unethical to extend professional courtesy as it leads to poor psychiatric care due to the lack of give and take". He demonstrated that resentment in many ways including passive-aggressive behavior by consistently making me call his office 3 times for refills of Klonopin as I watched in terror my supply of that addictive stuff go down. Then, after years of phony empathy, he tells me that while "psychiatrists offer words of wisdom, they don't really do therapy, only pharmacology...we are not substitutes for a trained counselor". Really? What was all the talking about? Do other psychiatrists who spend 45 minutes per session agree with that job description? So I should have gone to an actual therapist all along which is why I never felt better talking to him? There are psychiatrists who spend 15 minutes with patients, take insurance and only do pharmacology and make it clear they are not therapists and urge their patients to go into therapy. Never could I have imagined this man's genial exterior is a cover for what lies beneath - a 'nice' man who is actually the darkest of men. His amiable personality fooled me for too long. Naively, it was talk therapy I wrote off as useless but stayed with him on account of my addiction to Klonopin. My family and I paid an enormous price. I've spent nights sobbing awake just thinking how everything would have been so different if I had gone to anyone else. If only the first time I heard him say "that must be so hard" I had known he was enjoying my pain. Finally, Boris hires a lawyer to send me a letter that "criminal charges" would be made against me if I did not stop defaming his client as though the fate of Jamal Khashoggi criticizing the Saudi prince is what awaits me. He even terrified my elderly parents by telling them that he had hired a lawyer to go after their son and gave them my furious emails to make it seem I had lost touch with reality - a complete breach of HIPAA and taking the word "unethical" to a whole new level. (I’m filing an ethics complaint with OPMC) We all know wolves in sheep's clothing. There is only one person I hate and that is Boris Rubinstein.
