James E Allen Elementary School

My son with Autism has missed 4 out of the last 5 weeks of class because someone in there school keeps saying they were exposed. Most recently we wanted him to go back within the new 5 day grace period, but they would only let him return if he wore a mask. He is nonverbal with autism and pediatric asthma and is medically exempt from wearing a mask with a pediatric note. They said that doesn't matter and if he cant wear the mask he cant go to school. This nonstop pandering to the endemic is absolutely ridiculous. First it was deaths and hospitalizations now they care about "cases". They have all failed these children this year. All of these schools have failed these children. We thought JEA would be different but it isn't. He has an amazing teacher, Ms Melissa, who we love, but the principals and admin that make these rules and take their "guidance" from NYS DOH and BOCES should be ashamed of themselves.

Long story short my school district sent me to JEA do to my unfortunate behavior. What I viewed as a punishment turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me. My first year or two I admit wasn’t the best. But things turned around when I learned one of my teachers believed in me. At the time it was an elementary, junior and senior high school.
