IN my day ( 1950 graduate ) at LDBC we slept on cots and had 4 Army blankets, wool to keep us warm thru the 33 to 40 degree F Temperatures. It must have been that cold as I could see frost in the field.I slept in tent 7 and being asst. tent chief I got to sleep right next to the growler, which was always overflowing. But I had A grand view of the meadow. I was in the choir under the tutelage Of Mr. Charles Walker, which led to also singing in the City, at St. Thomas Chapel. I got paid for that, so that was great! $3.00/ Month. I formed many friendships at the camp, I tried boxing and long distance track events at the encouragement of a A company camper. The camp always encouraged sports and that was right down my alley. I always accumulated large amounts of .22 shells, they could be Traded for cash on the train back to the City. We would then get into Card games and assist the richer kids in learning Blackjack. My best Time was when my oldest brother ( 12 years older ) met me coming off the ferry. I hadn't seen him in many years. My favorite memory Was, going into the kitchen and talking to the elderly couple that cooked our meals, three times a day. And their cooking was fantastic. They also allowed you to warm up your thistle.
