Such an incredibly unique space.Andrew does what he can to work with renters, and gets excited about everyone's projects. This isn't venue rental just as a means to make a quick buck. Andrew cares.If you're shooting with sound, be sure to coordinate with Andrew to to try and minimise the chances of upstairs noise from the church's services and bookings. (Ask him about when Ocean's 8 shot up there!)

A very special venue for those who want to make an impression! Gymnopedie was a fantastic choice for our wedding celebration last fall. Our friends and family were fascinated by the space and its unique qualities--the space just has so much character! Andrew, the owner, is very accommodating and really helped us tie up so many loose ends to prepare our special evening. Gymnopedie made for an unforgettable evening. Thank you!

There is no venue like Gymnopedie. We hosted our wedding celebration here a few months ago and had an unforgettable, unique, Brooklyn-only experience--in the basement of a historic church. Descending the stairs into Gymnopedie is like being spirited away into a strange, immersive fantasy world, where you can be as creative as you want, as imaginative as you like. We had usual wedding fare--catered food, DJ setup and dance floor, tables and chairs, a wedding "altar," and vignettes for photo shoots featuring furniture, lights, and props already owned by the space; we were also able to bring our own items in. Gymnopedie comes with its own vibe, charm, and environment, but the space is adaptable and customizable to a generous extent to fulfill your specific needs. Andrew, the genius behind the space, was not only helpful and accommodating; he also offered his own creative suggestions that helped us to craft and put together the perfect night. The space will really give back to you what you give it, and I can imagine so much potential for a whole range of quirky events. We're so glad to have a part of our history here!

Gymnopedie is a rare and special place run by rare and special people. The smaller rooms are strange and beautiful. The central space is raw and with just a few well placed lights and props, we were able to transform it into a powerful immersive set for our event. Way more affordable than any comparable spaces. Staff is incredibly nice and kind and helpful. Hope to do another event here soon!
