My first "visit." I had asked for the other doctor but received a call a day later that I needed to see Dr. Shiferson so I agreed. That should have raised a red flag right there. Since I am currently being treated at Maimonides Cancer Center and had dealt with other Maimonides doctors, I decided that I would give this doctor an opportunity. I have a severe problem with discoloration of my leg and swollen foot due I believe to poor circulation.
Advice: Do not overbook so many patients at once. My appt. was for 2:00 pm. I walk in and it was crowded with people. Lady barely looked up and told me to sign the paper and sit outside bc of social distancing. I sat outside which was directly near the entrance with about six other women. It was very very hot and uncomfortable since people were in and out and one 1/2 door was left open. Not enough seats. Got there at 1:15 and my appt. was for 2 pm.
We did not see ONE person come out of the much cooler inside appt. area, NOT ONE. After talking to the ladies, I found that two of them had appointments at 1 pm (and were still outside) and the other TWO ladies (besides myself) had a 2 pm appt. This is bad scheduling. I was not even given any paperwork to fill out and it was uncomfortable sitting in the heat. This is a matter of poor execution of scheduling several people for same time slots when there were women there still not seen for their 1:00 appt. Started feeling sick and I realized that since I am going to need several appts. because of the severity of my legs (discoloration, severely swollen) that this would not be the doctor for me since first impressions mean everything. It seemed like all they cared about was how many people they could book in one day. By 2:30 pm, I was done and left. Even the people at 1:30 had not been seen yet. Waste of time. I will ask my onco at Maimonides to recommend somebody bc my leg issue is becoming more severe. I am expected to be on time so they should respect their patient's time also.
