image A beautiful, old-fashioned cemetery. You could easily spend a few enjoyable hours walking the grounds.

image One of the cemeteries with the most beautiful tombs...

image We have a 12 plot section and the cemetery info says it doesn't exist, we have photos and original bill of sale. Records are not good

image As often happens with cemeteries, especially monumental ones, this is a place of reflection and peace.
It has several tombs that could easily be present in a museum, for the beauty of the statues that are there and for the very structure they have.
I went there in the middle of autumn with the typical colors of the foliage and it was very beautiful.
For those who have historical curiosities, know that Miles Davis and Fiorello La Guardia are buried here (the latter in an absolutely anonymous and sober tomb).
If you want to get away from the classic New York sightseeing tours, go and visit this cemetery.
The 4 subway line takes you there, which you can take from Grand Central Terminal.
Entrance is free.
It is in the area of, among other things, Van Cortland Park, the third largest park in New York.

image I have been doing ancestry since 2006 and in late 2016 my dad gave me a billfold then I found some paperwork and finally being able to locate my great great grandmother and this is the cemetery shes buried in. Sad part is I went in on Veterans Day 2023 and the office was closed so no one was able to help me. I was able to ask someone on the grounds if he worked there and he did not, but he gave me a map and gave me directions to the section I needed to be. I was able to locate my ancestors after one hour of looking for them because the sections are not marked with anything. If you dont know you just dont know because Ive never been there in the end. I was very happy to be able to locate them. 400 acres of if you know where to go, you know where to go.
