I hired Total Home Interiors to reduce the impact noise in my two-story home. The company claimed they could provide a 70% improvement with their recommendations. Their solution was to screw down my hardwood floors to prevent squeaking, apply acoustical glue, place down acoustical rubber, accoustical caulk along the perimeters, and finally place underlayment and a floating floor on top. Unfortunately, halfway through the project, we noticed zero improvement and even an increase in vibration in the apartment below. We raised a concern to them, but Glenn, the owner, dismissed our complaint and instead blamed our house for having structural issues. He even tried to convince our other contractor to work with him to "make a lot of money together," which showed a lack of professionalism. After completing the work, the floors still squeak, and the impact noise is much more prevalent, shaking the floors downstairs every time someone walks upstairs. Glenn was fixated on the supposed "structural issues" of our home rather than the substandard work. He even suggested that we spend an additional 2-3k to hire a structural engineer to cut multiple invasive holes in our new ceiling for an assessment. However, we had already done a home inspection recently and had confirmed that the joists are properly sized and there are no structural issues in our home. Furthermore, the company categorized themselves as acoustical consultants on Google, which is misleading because their team has no acoustical credentials. The workers who came to our home acted unprofessionally and left acoustical glue all over our newly painted walls. They also charged us 13.2k for the work, including acoustical glue and rubber, for a 1,000 sq ft apartment. We had to purchase an additional 6k of laminate flooring and underlayment. Since the work done by this company decreased the soundproofing in our home, we refused to pay the rest of the 50% balance (~6.6k) and asked Glenn to walk away amicably since he obviously had no idea how to fix the issue. He continued to try to get us to pay for more services at a profit and even requested $3500 and an NDA to silence us from telling our story. After repeated threats of a lawsuit, we finally settled on $4750 with no other stipulations. Overall, I would not recommend Total Home Interiors for their unprofessionalism, lack of expertise, and poor quality of work.

My Project: ~1000 sq. ft 2nd floor condo; 2 bed 2 bath 1 kitchen 1 living/dining area; lay all new floors/stairs with under-floor soundproofing; and 75% remodel kitchen and baths. PROs: the guys really know their stuff. Rich especially is knowledgeable, super handy, methodical and careful in his work, and a really honest guy. Matt is great with the tech stuff and home audio/video/computer/network. They were the only company I could find in Central New Jersey to do this kind of project with soundproofing included. Prices were reasonable and fair. They also happily did some extra work along the way as things came up which I very much appreciate. CONs: taking off 2 stars. 1st star off because the project took a very long time, many months over the expected finish date. There would be weeks at a time where I did not hear from them. 2nd star off because they did not finish. Unfortunately after a ton of amazing work they did, after I gave them the last payment, I haven't heard from them - they left holes in the walls, wall/floor trim unfinished, etc. OVERALL: a good experience, fair prices, great work for the most part. UPDATE 7/18/2022: Glenn the owner reached out, sent the guys back to wrap up the work plus perform additional new work. They did a great job and I ultimately do recommend this company to folks. Adding back a star. Thankful for their time and effort!

In Glenns response to my partner, he pretends hes a stand up guy that has no hard feelings but dont be fooled. He did not offer to pay for the structural engineer after it was clear the solution didnt work and did not offer any follow up services at cost. In fact, he insisted that we keep throwing more money at the issue hoping that something sticks and insist that we would foot the bill for everything. We were also told that the solution they recommend would resolve most of the issues (70%) but additional work may be needed if more soundproofing was wanted. In our case, their work caused a Worsening of the soundproofing which was something we didnt think could happen. We didnt agree to settle because of the NDA he requested and he became very accusatory. He was extremely disrespectful and we rather communicate with lawyers than deal with him as we had lost all trust in his character. He comments on how we waited so long to write the review. Not sure why that matters to him since we settled sometime in February (few months ago). The truth is that we finally got a chance to sit down to write one because its a lot to explain. If youre looking for a reputable acoustical consultant to provide a proper assessment of your home and a valid recommendation this is not your place. If you want to hire someone to implement the same cookie cutter recommendation that mightve worked on someone elses home, then you might as well pay for a regular contractor to do the same for much less. They are not acoustical consultants and the solution they provide you is not tailored to your home and could even make matters worse. Dont expect them to resolve any defects at cost because they wont.

To say this was the way it happened is not really worth my time to reply to. We have done hundreds of projects over years of work and our reviews stand for themselves. This client was given a recommendation from another client in their hometown who had the same work done and was very happy. They even spoke on the phone. They were told in advance that we may have to do work from the ceiling below which is what that other clients also needed at their home. They were well aware of this and when we finished upstairs we went downstairs and nails were popping out of the ceiling just from a laminate floor being clicked into place.Even though they were told we would need to do the work originally discussed I still offered to do it at cos I also offered to pay for a structural engineer if they said we were at fault.Furthermore, I even set up a conference call with our vendor to discuss the situation to come up with a solution only because we wanted them to be happy and we care. However, as two structural engineers, an architect and a commercial builder all told me there’s no way this could’ve happened unless there were issues with the construction of their home.I did not even ask for a final payment for a month waiting for them to find a structural engineer to meet with us and recommend 2 myself. However, this woman kept stringing me along. She even agreed with me on a settlement only to go back on her word after we agreed.Lastly, I really think this has nothing to do with our experience together because if it did she would’ve wrote the review months ago when it happened or when the court case ended. I guess she is having a bad week and felt the need to release some stress. We have all been there so no hard feelings.Anyhow, I will not really be saying anything else about this. Our reviews speak for themselves across all formats. Just this week 4 more happy clients that we helped change their lives. In fact, as I’m writing this I just received a text message from a client who said in his gym room he could hear the child running above him as soon as he walked in his bedroom and shut the door he did not.Having said that, no hard feelings I only wish them the best and the client mentioned above should be posting a review shortly

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our services. On the positive side, I am so happy to hear you had a great experience with the project, pricing and the team. I did however explain the delay in finishing the last 1% of the project. Unfortunately, supply chain issues delayed the project at the end while we waited for the doors for your laundry area and some other materials to finally arrive and in that time apparently communication did slip between all parties.Although my team members did communicate with you numerous times about coming back one last day to tie up some unfinished tasks, they did feel like there was no urgency on your part and at no fault of yours that led to some complacency on our part. As per my recent voicemail to you I take this very seriously and I appreciate you pointing this out to us so that we can tighten up our focus as we rapidly expand do to overwhelming demand for our services.
