Our daughter (who had just turned 1 year old) was asked to leave the class because she wasn’t “adjusting “. She was a baby away from her parents in a new environment for the first time, so yes, she did cry and need soothing at times. This is not unusual for babies. She was only enrolled for a short time (less than a month) before we were asked to leave the school, yet all the reports from her teachers were positive/improving. As her mother, I was never approached to discuss what could be done to help her transition or to talk about our options. When we picked her up we often found her calmly listening to a book or sitting with a teacher. One day when we picked her up, her things were packed up and we were told “it wasn’t working outâ€. We were completely blindsided. Throughout the time we were enrolled the director (who was new at the time) made several inappropriate and derogatory comments about how needy our daughter was. Our one year old baby girl. Suffice it to say that we were disgusted with our experience. Soon after, we found another daycare for our baby where she was loved, nurtured, and supported. She adjusted well, and has thrived there. Leaving your child in the care of strangers is such a difficult thing to do, and I just want to caution other parents considering this location that “tender care†isn’t necessarily what they’re going to get.
