My girlfriend and I visited the Green Olive since she had purchased a Groupon. We arrived at 7:30pm on a Saturday, to find a mostly empty restaurant. There were only two or three full tables occupied by older couples. Also, there were maybe 4 or 5 people at the bar (leaving often to smoke, and smelling of smoke when they came back). So essentially empty. This was a sign of things to come. I should first say that the service was good. No complaint there. First my girlfriend ordered the Pasta Fagioli soup, while I ordered the French Onion soup. Neither tasted the way they should. My girlfriend commented that it didn't look the way it should, and that they used the wrong pasta. For my soup, it didn't taste much like onion, despite having a full onion in it. The cheese also had a weird texture to it, like it had been frozen or something. For our main courses, we both ordered burgers. We figured that it would be pretty hard to screw up burgers. We were wrong. First, BOTH the burger patty and bun were cooked from frozen. That was obvious. Second, the cheese again didn't look or taste right. Neither burger was served with lettuce, tomato or onion. The steak fries were also of the frozen variety that anyone could pick up from their local grocery store. Not impressed. When were done with our orders, we asked for the check but first informed our waitress that we had a Groupon ($40 value). She informed us that we could only use it if our bill was over $40 (understandable), and that our bill was "way lower" than that. To get to the number, we reluctantly ordered two deserts to go. These deserts had to be the worst part of the "meal". I would have preferred if they went out to Costco and bought a Kirkland branded cheesecake or chocolate mouse cake. Instead it seemed like it was frozen Sara Lee deserts. Bottom line, i suspect that the good reviews on this restaurant are either by elderly couples or people who aren't used to eating quality food with quality ingredients. If we had gone to our local diner, we would have received food LIGHT YEARS better. By far the worst tasting meal we have gotten in years.
