Update: they have reached out and refunded me since the app did not work. Which I very much appreciate. And sounds like they are working to identify why it wont work on iPads. Their 1:1 tutoring app does not work with iPads. My daughter and I could not get the sessions to work. They had me email their IT support who ran us through steps that did nothing. Bounced us around to people who all had me try the same things then admitted they have issues with the app. And now they are ignoring my requests for refunding the money. Its a huge disappointment to spend $400 and not get 1 successful tutoring session! Go somewhere else dont waste your money!

Find someone local. Stay away. Worst group ever. Technical issues. Tudor didnt know how to do some problems and some were wrong. We paid for one month and cancelled before renewal and they charged us for month #2 - during summer break. They denied our request for refund. Poorest customer service. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

We have just started using Varsity Tutor for our children. We have been very impressed. From the enrollment process to matching us with a tutor that fits our needs, we have been very well communicated with by both the company representatives and our personal tutor. They have made sure any questions were answered, our needs were met and the assigned tutor was a good fit for our family. We have received a lot of feedback and recourses to help aid our children as well. Our tutor has made an effort to get to know our children's interests and she has geared their reading toward subjects they are naturally interested in. I am excited to see the progress our kids are starting to make already.

My son is 17, a junior, and he struggles very much with Math. He has an individualized education plan that he has had since he was 4. He is also very high functioning autistic. We let Varsity Tutors know of this from the time we enrolled my son in the program, which was about 1.5 months ago. He was assigned Mr. Adam and saw him twice a week for one hour each session. Mr. Adam assigned my son homework which included Khan Academy and other amongst other assignments. The first couple of sessions went okay. My son understood that he was really far behind on his math goal but he remained optimistic about progressing and basically relearning the things he forgot. He was having trouble remembering things from 4th grade and on. It is actually part of his educational plan, he struggles with retention of materials, as well as requires more time than other kids to comprehend new things. He's worked extremely hard his entire life to maintain a 3.5 (or higher) GPA despite having a learning disability. We were very clear with expressing this as a concern to Varsity Tutors when we enrolled him. Still, as the sessions with Mr Adam went on, my son kept coming out of the sessions deflated, sad, and really bummed because he didn't know "the basics" as he was calling it. Meanwhile, during this month, we purchased a new home, and that also took a lot of time away from my son and his studies. His focus became keeping up with his school assignments and between 8 classes and moving, he just wasnt able to complete the assignments that Mr. Adam required. I own that. Change in life is hard. But the reason why I'm giving this company 1 star is because Mr Adam DOES NOT have the patience or tact to work with someone who has a learning disability. My daughter heard him tell my son that he could not believe he didn't know basic 4th grade math, that he might as well go back to second grade and start over.. this was at the end of their last session. I told my son to call him back because I couldn't believe that a tutor, who's sole job it is to teach my son, would possibly say something so disrespectful to a student. I asked him to clarify and all he said was that that he didn't know any other way to motivate him. That he was purposely trying to "push his buttons" to try to get him to understand he's really far behind. He said he was frustrated because one session they would talk about something and then by the next session he would forget it. I replied with"that's part of his IEP, his comprehension and retention of materials" and when I reminded him of his disability he just blamed my son and said that he was being untruthful by making excuses of why he wasn't completing the assignments. I fired him on the spot and told him that my son isn't motivated by insults. I totally own that yes, he hasn't had time to complete assignments because we've been packing/unpacking and he has a lot going on. But the entire reason why we got him a tutor was because we knew as parents that he needs a lot of support with Math and remembering things he learned in the past. My review is solely for the way my son was treated, how he was basically called dumb in not so many words and was told to go back to the 2nd grade from A TUTOR THAT IS BEING PAID TO HELP HIM. Tf.

We didn't care for them. Lots of technical issues, incorrect account info even when updated repeatedly, unable to reach them to cancel. The tutor we were assigned was kind but didn't focus on Reading like we signed up for. When I called to cancel I was told there wasn't a focus for reading (which is the only thing we signed up for). Then the first time I tried to cancel they offer for you to have another 30 days with a different tutor which they would have a reading specialist, yeah due to technical issues on their site we never actually got to work with the new tutor. We have opted to go with a different company that sends a tutor to your home. But now we are waiting to have our cancelation approved and our funds refunded since we did cancel within our trial period, they said it can take up to 5 days to hear back.
