I have nothing against Uhaul. In fact until I rented a trailer from them i would have recommended them. However..... Uhaul knows absolutely nothing about their trailer equipment. I asked for the tongue height and what kind of tow bar was attached to the trailer and the corporate 800 customer service number could not answer those simple questions. It would be laughable if they werent endangering the safety of their customers by their blatant disregard for equipment safety standards..... but they are. Their cargo trailers are not equipped with any way for you to secure it to your vehicle. You can attach it to your hitch and connect the 4 ft safety chains (yes.... 4ft safety chains for a 16 inch run) but the trailer is not equipped with a tongue latch to lock it in place with a hitch pin lock. Because of this anyone, and I mean your 12 year old prankster nephew with the spaghetti arms, could disconnect it from your vehicle and take it.... along with everything in it. (FYI... their insurance only covers accidental damage and NOT theft of the trailer OR your contents) The trailers have a 4.5 ft straight tow bar but are not equipped with any kind of equipment to control "sway". And about those "safety" chains.... 1st, they wrap them around themselves in a fashion that completely eliminates the tensile strength of all but ONE chain link. 2nd they are connected with rated quick links but quick links are NOT rated for ANY kind of live or side load, which, again, completely eliminates the use of the safety chains. When I called the national 800 number to inquire about these questions/issues I was transferred to a "Manager on duty" who told me "someone from the local uhaul repair shop would call me back". Never happened. SO..... If you rent a trailer from uhaul be prepared to address all of these questions and safety issues with no assistance from Uhaul as they dont know their own equipment well enough to offer any. No problems for me, still waiting on my final receipt. I only took off one star because the office smells strongly of cigarettes. As an aside, I strongly urge every customer to use the link they text you to send pictures of the odometer and fuel gauge both when you pick up and return the truck just to be covered in case there's a discrepancy as happened to a friend of mine at a different location.
