Located just outside of Yellowstone NP, Gardiner offers some of the best small town feels that I've had during this 3 week vacation. It's a great contrast to the ritzy upscale class and high end stores that now fill Jackson and less tourist trip feeling than West Yellowstone on the other side of the park. As our second time staying in this town this was our first time staying in this hotel and we left very happy. Staff was attentive, the room was tidy and well priced for the area and its proximity to the entrance. The owner of this hotel owns a few properties in the area and the room we stayed in was inside of a home that has been remodeled to have 4 seperate hotel "rooms", we had an upstairs suite with two seperate bedrooms inside and a kitchenette. The stairs will creek as you walk up and the decor is simple once inside. Our mini fridge was in a closet which was comical and if you open a window prepare for LOTS of bugs to sneak in as the light in your room attracts them. No complaints here though, it's an older home like most in the area and all the little things add up to the experience to us. We had no problem finding street parking just outside of the house. The staff cleaned the rooms in the morning and the bathroom was free of all those tiny flies that snuck in the night before. Location and service will be the reason to book here. I've read some of the reviews and I think people who have left poor ratings arent aware of the issues facing this town. Space is limited in Gardiner and most of the population already has a hard time finding where to live as most of the homes have been bought to be used for tourism. Voice your concerns to the staff, the two women we spoke with were young (likely just seasonal employees) but very willing to help. There is no laundry mat available for guests but several in town just a short walking trip away. Perhaps not the ideal location for a large family or those with many small children but for us as a couple and my father in law, it was great. We were able to wake up early and get to Lamar Valley for a wolf spotting adventure without hiring an expensive guide (just post up quitely nearby!). Try the bison burger at Iron Horse for a yummy dinner and embrace the Yellowstone magic. We will return for sure!
