Two couples and longtime friends enjoyed a delightful and delicious dinner at Veritas on Sat, May 6, 2023. We arrived at 6 and left at 8:30 pm. Service, drinks & food were all outstanding. Atmosphere was perfect. We were given free cheese samples with drinks before dinner. Highly recommend. We will return soon. Parking: Free parking near entrance.

This place is..odd. I would not put it in the fine dining category. The dishes are basic, comfort food but they try to elevate them- nothing wrong with that but I think they missed the mark. Food was either bland or over seasoned by an ingredient. The food came out slow. To get to the bathroom, you have to walk past their open-kitchen, and you can tell the sous chefs were lost, probably new or inexperienced. It kind of feels depressing in the restaurant and the place lost its direction.

I cannot believe we have lived just down the street from this place for 10 years and have never tried it. I've noticed some complaints in reviews about the atmosphere and decor, but these are the exact things we found charming about Veritas - it's a very homey, unpretentious atmosphere. The food was unique and incredible. Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious (wish I'd taken pics), from the appetizers, both of our entrees, and the carrot cake dessert. The only complaint we had was that everything took so long (but this was actually also nice because it extended our date night dinner for longer than it otherwise would have been). I think there was probably only one waiter serving the entire dining room, but she was working very hard and the owners were also helping out where they could. We will definitely be returning!

I've had some good (and some wonderful) experiences here over the years but things are lacking lately. My mistake for ordering a cocktail at a wine restaurant but my Manhattan was served over a ton of ice (not one cube but a lot of individual cubes). It sat on the bar window for 10 minutes watering down and tasted bad by the time I got it. Best part was they tried to overcharge me for the drink. No water refills either. The food was decent. The menu was underwhelming. The ambience was lacking. The tables have nothing on them. Not a flower or anything of interest. There was stuff (cardboard boxes on tables, an apron on my chair when I sat down, dirty napkins piled up nearby) sitting around completely visible to diners. The final thing was their social media manager was having a very loud conversation about their entire social media strategy while standing right over us. Completely odd. We're eating our meal and can't have our own discussion because we were basically a part of hers. I would recommend Veritas just take a look around and try to elevate back to what they once had going. For the price, I expect more.
