Called them to take a look damage on the roof, a fellow came by, took a bunch of pictures, and advised that I contact my Homeowners’ Insurance (no-brainer there). He also shook his head about the company that installed the gutters, and assured me he was “a wiz” with insurance claims. I said alright, my parents own the house, insurance is in their name, let me talk to them and call him back. He didn’t give me an estimate at the time. I talked with my parents (the homeowners) and got them to authorize the insurance company to speak with me. I called him back the next day, he answered but then after I said my name, he said “I’m in class right now.” I asked if he could send me an estimate to give to the insurance company, he asked if it was an agent or a 1-800 number, I replied that it was an agent, and he replied, “they’re just trying to manage the claim.” So I start thinking, “first he advised me contact my insurance, then after I did that it wasn’t the way he wanted it to be.” He explained some details quickly at about 100 mph, then ended with, “If you don’t want to proceed, then that’s fine.” Seemed like his mind moved too fast for him to be able to articulate his reasoning to me before he was on to his next thought. At that point I’m just not sure if catching him at a bad time and he’s jumping headfirst into the wrong conclusions, or if he just doesn’t want to do the job because it’s not how he wants it. I offer to call him back when he’s not in the middle of class, he replies, “Hello? Hello?” as it he couldn’t hear me (he heard me clearly until that point) and then he hung up. Still didn’t give me an estimate. I checked to see if I could speak with an alternative phone number, thinking that since the pictures were already taken maybe they could just send me an estimate to go with for the time being. The only phone number listed was the one he’d answered, so it must be just him with his personal phone. So I’m going to go with the, “he just didn’t want to do the job,” explanation. The pictures of the roof he showed me weren’t all that horrible, it looked like a regular repair to me. Not sure what to make of his behavior, it all seems like routine stuff to me.
