Smooth Transitions of St Louis

We've used Charlie and his team twice for moving my elderly parents, first from their very large and cluttered house to independent living, and now from independent living to assisted living. Each time, they had to significantly downsize, and Charlie was thorough, completely reliable, well organized, and very systematic in each step of the move, from first drawing up plans and figuring out what can/should be taken and left, to then managing all the details of what to do with the stuff that couldn't be taken. Perhaps what was even more impressive was his ability to manage all the resistance and emotions that my parents had in navigating the move. We highly, highly recommend them. ----Oh, and one more thing: my brothers and I live on the East coast and have had to deal with all of these details from out of state (only meeting Charlie once when we were all in town), and Charlie's communication was stellar.

I selected Smooth Transitions to help me with my move to a senior retirement community. It is a small family-owned business run by St. Louis natives, Charlie and Beth Shapard, and was on the short list of senior movers recommended by the community. Having handled previous moves on my own with all the stress and mistakes inherent in that process, I had no idea what a difference it could make to use a transition resource like this. They not only helped me with the always difficult process of sorting, decluttering, donations, consignment, etc., but they gave me invaluable advice on placement of my furniture in my new home. While their expertise was my reason for choosing them, the very best part of this experience was that they treated me like a family member, well understanding the emotional aspects of moving to a retirement residence, deselecting personal possessions, and the vulnerability one inevitably feels during this process. They attended to every detail with care and continued to follow up with me after the move to make certain I was happy with the results and that any remaining questions were answered. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Simply amazing. If you are a senior and moving, a family member helping coordinate a move, or there's some of both, Smooth Transitions is the team for you. Charlie and his team methodically, practically, and sensitively take you through the entire process -- from helping plan what's moving, what's being given to family members, and what needs to be donated, and the move itself. Then his team unpacks it all. It is done in a day. I worked with him to help my mom move from her home of 50 years into an independent living facility. He and his team worked with my mom respectfully and efficiently to help her determine what to take and leave. He moved it, and then when she walked in to her new apartment, it was like she was walking into her home all over again. Things were arranged, pictures, hung, and her food was even in the pantry. Not a box in site. He then works with the senior and family to remove items left behind in the family home, transport items to the family members, and clean the property. He was so good, we hired Smooth Transitions again when mom transitioned to a higher level of care. He and his team are compassionate, efficient, and careful. Can't recommend him more. Get on Charlie's calendar. Smooth Transitions delivers what its name implies without agonizing deliberations or tedious packing. It takes the sting out a sensitive time for both the senior AND their family. Thank you Charlie!

Smooth Transitions was recommended to us when we were faced with the daunting task of moving our aunt from her home and into an independent living facility. We were overwhelmed with the process of downsizing, sorting through furniture, household items, clothing and paperwork. Charles Shapard took us through a step-by-step strategic plan to streamline the move. He and his team took over the entire moving process which alleviated so much of our stress so that we could be there to support our aunt. On moving day, we took Aunt Carol out for the day, and by dinnertime, she walked into her new apartment, fully decorated with her own furniture. All household items, linens, clothing, bath and kitchen supplies, were put in their proper places! Due to medical circumstances, our aunt recently transitioned into an assisted living facility and we had the great fortune of using Charles Shapard and his Smooth Transitions team for a second time. We couldnt have been more pleased with the professional service which we received.

What would we have done without you - Smooth Transitions. They handled a move to combine two separate apartment dwellers into one apartment within the same retirement community - all in one day. So professional - so respectful of our situation - all during strict COVID restrictions in the building. Even offered to remove and deliver to offsite address (but just for a small fee) several pieces of furniture not going to new apartment. Awesome people to handle our mom's move and her partner's into one. Kudos to this great company! We will always refer them to family and friends - no questions asked.
