This is exactly why people don’t buy local in small towns if they have options... New to the area and decided to see if Peculiar had a local hardware store, I was pleasantly surprised when I found they did. My first visit was fine, the kid behind the counter seemed friendly and was able to figure out the simple math of the transaction after a few seconds... 2.50 x 2 is what? (I’m not kidding...) To no ones fault but my own I bought chain adapters that did not fit the chain link I bought, after getting home and realizing the mistake I made I ventured back to find out how terrible the selection of inventory is. I asked (the previously helpful kid behind the counter) since all the shelves were empty with the parts I needed, if they had some in the back. He responded with, “if we had a back, then maybe”. About this time 2 teenage girls walked in and completely stole this guys attention. He didn’t acknowledge a single question I asked until I came to the counter with parts that weren’t meant for the job I was doing at all, but would get me by in the short term. His comment to me at check out was, “if it was me I wouldn’t use these, good luck”... I told him I wouldn’t be buying it if they had what I needed and he replied, “yea, we don’t keep stuff like that stocked very well”. Disclaimer: there is a “for sale by owner” sign in the window of this store. So, maybe they have just realized it’s a lost cause, and decided not to have compitent staff and inventory. I recommend driving the 6 Miles to raymore, this is not the store to try and support local sales!
