Johnson Junk Removal

Full disclosure: I did not use them to actually remove anything but did have them come out to provide a quote after speaking with their office over the phone. I had initially scheduled 1-800-Got-Junk? (GotJunk) to come out and quote a haul-away. I happened to receive a "$25 Off - 1/4 Load" coupon in the local ValuPak for Johnson, so, having no idea how large of a load size I had, I called them to see if they would come out. The gentleman on the phone indicated that they were a local company and generally cheaper than the national chain (GotJunk). He quoted me GotJunk's minimum haul-away price (which was not accurate) and informed me that he could beat, or at least roughly match, that price after I told him what I had to haul away, so I scheduled Johnson to come out and cancelled GotJunk's visit. Johnson was able to come out within 24 hours, and actually arrived earlier than scheduled (which I appreciate). The team that came out was friendly and helpful. However, upon reviewing the items I had to haul away, their quote came in significantly higher than anticipated and much higher than what they informed me GotJunk would charge for the load size (1/8th load). Part of the issue was an additional $60 fee to haul away a fridge, which I was not aware of through our previous communications. Additionally, they did not appear to be willing to work on price or accept the coupon I had, since the load size did not qualify. Ultimately, I sent them away, and rescheduled GotJunk to come out just to see what their actual price quote was for the load size. GotJunk came out and, after hearing my hesitancy to use a junk removal service due to my sticker shock from Johnson's quote, worked with me on price until it was almost impossible to let them leave. There is nothing about Johnson that appears inherently unfair (hence the two stars instead of one): the pricing/value was not unreasonable (from an industry standpoint), the haulers were friendly, the timing was responsive. The issue is that they initially established expectations with me, who as a potential first-time customer had no understanding of the pricing, industry or load sizing, and then failed to come close to meeting those expectations on pricing and failed to try to work with me at all, including accepting the coupons they send out to everyone in the area. On top of that, there were additional charges that were not clear ($60 recycling fee for fridges), and, by using the coupons they send out in the local mailer to call and make an appointment, I was unaware and not informed of a $20 discount for online booking. Ultimately, the experience ended up wasting several days of my time just to go back to my original choice of service provider and left me wondering why a local company, who is working against a national competitor, would set unattainable customer expectations and be so rigid when they are clearly trying to earn new business by sending out discount offers to everyone in the area.

Used this service for the second time and these 2 guys were awesome. Arrived early gave them the information and they went right to it. Very friendly and polite.They went above and beyond the call of duty when I asked if they would move some furniture for me and they said absolutely.
