My family and I have been consistent customers here for many years, but after a recent experience I will absolutely never return. Not only did they provide an absolutely ridiculous upcharge on every part, their communication was limited to non-existent and they refused to provide any rationale for the cost. If you've had good experiences in the past, I would very strongly urge you to go to any other mechanic as they have shifted their business practices and are exploiting goodwill to scam loyal customers.

April 2024 This is my third review because I'm a regular customer who now drives from Shakopee to Savage for my auto maintenance and repair needs at Southcross Auto Service. They consistently wow me with their competence, professionalism, can-do attitude, and honesty. February 2023 This is my second review because I now count myself as a regular customer at Southcross Auto Service. I strongly recommend that you do business with Southcross for these reasons: (1) COMPETENCE. Everyone from Olivia (service coordinator, front desk) to Bill (mechanic extraordinaire) to Steve (owner) knows what they are doing. It's refreshing to work with a business that does not cut corners by hiring less experienced people. For many companies, this is a business model for saving money; in fact, I've worked at such companies. Trust me, they are HORRIBLE companies to work at because you know customer service and quality workmanship are not a priority. (2) INTEGRITY. Unlike the service department at the VW dealership (or any other dealership), you will not be sold something your car does not need. Just one example: Three years ago, the local VW service department recommended I purchase new windshield wipers. I declined because I don't drive that much in rain/snow. When I brought my car into Southcross Auto I asked for an estimate on all the items the VW factory recommends be done every 40k miles; after all, it had been three years since I had that kind of work done. When Steve (owner) got to the windshield wipers, instead of recommending new wipers, he asked: "How are they working right now?" Three years after VW recommended I get new wipers, I told him: "They're working fine." To which he responded: "Then there's no need to replace them." How's THAT for integrity?! He did the same with a couple of other items listed on the 40k maintenance schedule; in fact, it was a couple of high-priced items that don't need to be replaced unless they're showing wear or cracks...items that could have made Steve more money! (3) LOCAL BUSINESS. Avoid the chains because your money does not remain in the community, it goes to corporate headquarters based in another state. Additionally, when you do business with a chain, you're dealing with policies and procedures that the manager has ZERO control over. That's not the case when you do business with a locally owned and operated business like Southcross Auto Service. You're dealing with Steve, the owner - and if not Steve, you're dealing with people who report directly to Steve. That's not the case at Discount Tire, Jiffy Lube, or any auto dealership. Additionally, locally owned and operated businesses just have a different feel than the chains. I don't know how to describe it. It's just different...in a positive way. I could go on, but this is already too long. Just make an appointment and make yourself a regular customer at Southcross Auto Service, you will not be disappointed! ---------- May 2022: Excellent service! Fast and friendly!
