        Had two curly cut appointments. One I had with Claudia and my daughter had Theresa. You are in extremely good hands with both of them. Claudia did a great job fixing my color too. She and Theresa discussed my color options together, the three of us. I have a much better understanding of how color works on my specific hair type. Also my haircut shape is so much better. This was a follow up to a previous curly cut I had elsewhere a month ago, and it's so much better. Between the cut and color I am much happier with the curly girl method and back to feeling good about how I look.

        I don't often take the time to write reviews, but after leaving in tears, I'm hoping that writing this will prevent other trans-masc or genderqueer people from having a similar experience. In addition to running about 20 minutes behind schedule, the stylist who began my cut misgendered me, told me "I don't see masculine when I look at that" when looking back at the reference photo of myself I had showed her of myself and explaining that I want to move even further in that direction. After repeated misunderstandings the owner came in and took over for the original stylist. Not an ideal start to my birthday weekend.

      Cal, it is never our intention to disrespect a persons gender but it can be difficult to teach people new ways. The stylist is a baby boomer, does this excuse her? definitely not, does it mean that she needs to be educated? The answer is yes. In no way did she refuse to use your pronoun, she just plain forgot. Does this make it better? Definitely not! The stylist knew that the situation was getting awkward and not knowing the correct way to handle the situation, she called the owner to take over. I know that this did make the situation better. We have trans-masc and genderqueer come to our salon and want to make our space welcoming to all. thank you for opening our eyes that forgetting to use the correct pronoun can be taken as refusing to use the pronoun, and can be hurtful.
