One of THE MOST organized, invested and committed Neighborhood Organizations in the city! Responsible for the oh so popular and enjoyable : ☆Northeast Farmers Market (Sat 9-1 ~ all summer!) ☆Dickman Park on 2nd st & 7th Ave. Not just a little kiddie play land~tho it is that. STAWNO not only maintains this charming pocket park it has developed a summer full.of programs to engage & unite the community! ☆Foodie.Fun Run ~ May 5K walk/run ~ a gorgeous loop around Mississippi, from Boom Island to Northside and back. Early fundraiser to highlight the season opening of the NE Farmers Market ☆Historic Riverfront 5K run/walk to close out the season in Oct! ☆STAWNO has been leading the city in the fight against the invasive Emerald Ash Borer. When they surveyed their neighborhood ~Realizing just how many Ash trees live in STAWNO they went to work! Treating MANY ~ removing when necessary and working closely with the city on a good mix of replacement trees....carefully chosen for their ability to survive in each location. A practice sure to be mimicked in other neighborhoods as they realize need.and their own power to act! ☆STAWNO had also been able to work with the city and it's many layers of beauracracy/agencies to work a deal with MnDot....when the intersection at Unversity & Broadway is reconstructed .... that vast sea of a concrete island will become a permeable surface with native plantings! Just a sampling of the many activities coming out of this ONE neighborhood org! Meeting are in Thursdays. ..catholic eldercare building on Marshall between 8th & 9th aves. If you live in the StAWNO area...get involved! You will not be disappointed. These (YOUR NEIGHBORS ) are great , accessible people!
