Mr. Sealcoat

My driveway was coated by Mr Sealcoat in October of 2021. Five months later it was coming off and by June it now appears to be gone. The material used did not adhere and became a giant mess that was tracked into the garage on car tires and ultimately into the house on shoes. I provided a heads up to inform them off the issue in March. They promptly replied that they would redo the work in May. Sometime between October and when I let them know of the issue, they had been purchased and now they no longer do residential work. I was later told that they took a look and decided it was not their issue, but rather something to do with my driveway that prevented adhesion. No suggestion on how to deal with this issue, no offer of a refund. I deal with contractors all over the Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti area. I value local businesses from family restaurants to locally owned hardware stores and shops. I direct my money (and investments) to support them, because I believe in them and want them to succeed. I've gotten to know my contractors well and know many of my waitresses and bartenders by name. It's a simple understanding for how much I'm appreciated as a customer and how much I appreciate their service. This is not the case with Mr Sealcoat. On the subject of service, I'm absolutely stunned that Mr Sealcoat and the business that purchased them are capable of accepting a customer's money and leaving them to deal with a failed job. As a twenty year employee for the business I work for, it's completely unimaginable to operate with even a remote sense that a customer could be left feeling this way. They appear to have some capable staff, it seems they may have lost something when they were purchased and departed from residential work.
