Total Flow Products is one of those places where you walk in an know immediately they know what they're doing. However, what you may not realize is what I found out the hard way. Steve, the owner, does not own up to his word. I was tasked with designing the Total Flow Products booth for a show recently and worked my hardest to put forth a good product. Half of the work was paid for and a second print was required because of changes. Due to an issue with the printer and an incorrect material, Steve, the owner of TFP, was not happy. However, despite his unhappiness, he and Total Flow Products went ahead and decided to use the print at the show to represent their company. This was not a big issue until he returned. Upon returning, I presented a revised invoice that included the remainder that was owed for the artwork completed as well as a deeply discounted print. There was some questioning about what everything meant, but I was told I would be called later that day so Steve could arrange payment. Steve finally did call, but no to arrange payment. Not only did he refuse to pay for the remainder of the artwork, but he refused to pay for a print that he verbally agreed to pay for. Is a man's word not important? Apparently not to Steve Sanchez it isn't. It was after explaining that I had deeply discounted everything for him that he later explained that it was perhaps "I" that "should be owing him" for mounting and hardware changes that occurred on the print. I've worked with and for muli-million dollar companies before and this is the first time I've been told to lose money AND pay some out of my pocket to someone. It was quite outrageous. Calmly, I suggested to take the prints since they had been used already. Steve agreed. With that in mind, I called a day later to attempt to arrange pickup. I was told several times that he "wasn't sure if he could be there" and "it's the holidays so there are things going on". "Okay, not a problem" I said. I then suggested that perhaps my wife would stop by one day. He again agreed that was okay. A few days pass and my wife calls me while out running errands. She suggests that perhaps she stop by since she had the Jeep to pick up the prints. I said "sure" not thinking anything of it. According to my wife, she walked in and was asked to sign something that stated I would return the prints and artwork. Return the artwork? Why would I return something that was used without full payment? I immediately got on the phone attempting to get explanation for the strange contract presented for work that wasn't fully paid for. Steve was immediately combative and refused to let the prints leave. We hung up after some moments and my wife preceded to ask questions of him. Not only did he lie, very poorly I might add, but he proceeded to grab my wife as she tried to walk out the door with the contract for me to see and sign. It was quite shocking to hear this about Steve as he never seemed like a bad guy in the beginning... then again, I would have never guessed Steve Sanchez would be the kind of guy not to pay for work completed "just because he didn't feel it was worth that". With that said, buyer beware. Steve doesn't keep his verbal agreements. He isn't trustworthy. And, if he thinks what it is you're doing for him isn't worth it, he will lead you along just long enough to get what he needs and then refuse to pay. It says a lot about a shop's character by who owns it. Well, I found out the hard way by who owns Total Flow Products. My advice? Just stay away. Don't learn the hard way like I had to. -JH
