image This place is disgusting and sleazy. Not only did the owner smoke in their previous Painesdale location, but allowed a band of elementary school kids to play their instruments as loud as they could in the mammal room, which was located in a dank basement. Ventilation was poor, rats were cramped into laboratory/breeding cages and could not move around, were forced to sit in their own excrement, and were isolated. Rats cannot be isolated, as they are very social creatures. Rats have been known to die of depression and loneliness when deprived of a companion. The absolute only instances when a rat needs to be isolated is either under illness or aggressive behavior, neither of which were present in any of the rats. Some rats were even kept in fish tanks, which is not good for them either. Ammonia and waste has no were to be ventilated, so it builds up in the tank, in which the rats are forced to live in. The wire tops of the tanks were a poor substitute for ventilation The guinea pigs were stuck into cages too small for them as well, and their claws were so long they were curling into "pig tails". There were also two parrots in the room causing so much racket my ears were hurting. Any good mammal owner knows that you cannot shove loud noise into the mammal's space. Also, the animals had to live in full view of two large boa constrictors. God only knows how many times the animals had to witness and hear the slow deaths of their fellow rats, guinea pigs, and mice.
The upstairs portion of the building was equally worse. The fish tanks were filthy, unkept, and signs of illness and disease were obvious in many of the tanks, which were also too small for the animals. The reptiles sat under heat lamps, some brands of which were completely unsuited for some of the reptiles. They also sat there without anything to occupy them.
They also sold puppies, birds, and miscellaneous other animals. They have moved to the Copper Country Mall and are still in business despite being reported to the local humane society. These people are up to no good and are clearly guilty of poor business practices and multiple instances of neglect and animal abuse.
