Our Family has been coming up and staying at these cabins for years. The staff is very friendly. Cabins 1-5 are separate buildings that have been recently updated. The building are constructed out of concrete blocks and have good windows in them, so the sound is well isolated, and no need to worry about hearing your neighbor through the walls. Those cabins have nice pine planks on the wall and are decorated well. They have their own private bathroom with shower in each room along with a small fridge and microwave. They are very clean. We stayed in Cabin 6 which featured a kitchen with a full size Fridge/Freezer, Microwave, stainless sink, 4 burner electric range with oven. While the appliances where older, they are well maintained and clean. Cabin 6 appeared to be very recently painted, so recent in fact, no wall decorations were on the wall. It doesn't have the same cool Planks on the wall as the other cabins, but was clean, and carpet was stain free. The traffic even on a busy weekend on US 23 is light, do not let road sound worry you. The grounds are well maintained, and there are a couple sites to park an RV, or toy hauler trailer. Camp fire pit with picnic tables. There is no WIFI, (why do you need it up north anyway) no cable TV. Our room had a small flatscreen tv that was connected to a bluray player and antenna to get local stations with weather and news info. Rooms recently updated to include A/C, along with ceiling and box fans provided if you want to leave the windows open to hear the nice natural ambiance of the woods. They did allow our dog to stay for only a flat fee for the entire trip which was nice. What kept this from getting 5 stars, was the tiny showers, and shower curtains that were tough to keep the water from going on the floor. The beds in cabin 6 seemed more like full sized beds then queens, and the couch in the cabin could be replaced, or at least covered. Cabin 6 could of used some wall art to break up the sea of grey and a clock of some sorts. Overall enjoyed more than some of the last chain places I have stayed. Depending on when you read this review, it is worth noting this was in August 2020 during the Covid restrictions. The owners took this very seriously and had the rooms spotless, and vacant 3 days between bookings. As such we had to bring our own towels, pillows, bedding (fitted sheet was provided). At the time of this booking only Cash or Check accepted. Roughly 30-35min drive to Rogers City or Cheboygan. Ocqueoc falls is about 15 min. The Mackinaw Bridge is about a 45-50min drive from here. Hammond bay has nice sand beaches, not sure if the hotel has a deal worked out with the close lanes as Huron is essential just on the other side of 23. Popular Local restaurant Rosa's (chuckwagon for breakfast) is very close and highly recommended. There is a small boat launch at the Trading Post. or a larger one with docks call the Refuge harbor just north for larger boats. Contains break water wall. 8-2021 Update, room has new furniture. Very nice bed frame couch and table. Bedding and Towels are back. Staff still awesome as always.
