We were at what is now considered McMarley's a couple times since opening weekend and had a pleasant time. - They serve pints of good beer (Guiness and another milk stout from what I remember) for only 3 dollars. Very good deal, though their drink menu was extremely limited. - As for the food, in my limited experience, I was disappointed. I got a large shrimp taco and some fries for $8.50. The taco was good, but the fries were scarce, with only about 6 in a large basket (why would they do this??). For the price, the food was a huge let down. If they don't increase their portions and (possibly) select, I'm afraid they'll go under like many bars before them. I was told the burger looked huge and for $5.50 it was probably the best deal on their menu. - As someone who works at Consumers Energy downtown, I wanted to take my team there for lunch, but they only keep later hours. Same story for two other friends of mine. Seems like if they were open for lunch on week days, they could get some good business. - The atmosphere is great and the staff is very friendly and fun to joke with. There is a great dance floor, but they haven't hired a DJ (though I'm told they're looking into it). This is a great place to go to watch sports and have a few beers. The pool tables are a nice touch, but for $1.25 a game, they were mostly ignored. Would be great if the tables only took a quarter...they could take the title of "Jackson's cheapest place to play pool" and garner a larger customer base. Unfortunately, in both my times going there, the crowd was relatively small. So much wasted potential...I really hope they will be able to recover. I will definitely go back, though only to drink and not to eat.
