My son Shawn and I had the pleasure of chartering with Jim and Huever on July 27th. We set off in search of lake trout and salmon and had some success, although it wasn’t without work. Jim was constantly monitoring conditions and changing gear in order to find fish. I always think the measure of a good captain is the work they put in when the fish aren’t biting, and Jim was great with stories and explanations of strategies he was employing to improve our luck. My son loved having Huever along during the slow times. I highly recommend Hook and Huever if you are in the area and want a great charter!

We hired Captain Jim to guide us on our first trip on Lake Superior, we were hoping to get into some salmon and lake trout. Jim did not disappoint!! We got both species and my wife caught a 10lb king salmon. When things got a little slow, Jim worked his butt off and changed things up to keep us on the fish. He is a very personable man and a pleasure to be around. We look forward to doing another trip with Captain Jim. PS, Heuver is a great dog and was a pleasure to have along on our trip.
