AJ's Cafe

The coffee is bad. The espresso is burnt and bitter tasting. This place had excellent espresso, made with Lavazza beans, when it was Xhedos. Now, the coffee is cheaper tasting than Starbucks. Additionally, the atmosphere is not as welcoming as when Caleb ran the joint. I've tried to go there several times since it's been AJ's, and every time I end up going across the street to Java Hutt.

Do not go to AJ's Music Cafe if you: - are under 30, he will not serve you properly, he will yell at you, he will tell you to get out, whether you buy something or not. - want to make money on a music event. He will take as much as he wants from you, he will not let fans dance (because he can't properly maintain his building and the floor isn't supported properly), he will not pay touring acts and he forgets he books shows. Hardly fitting of a "music cafe". -want reasonable prices. There are great food/drink options in Ferndale and the Detroit area, AJ's is not one of them as the prices are disproportionate to the quality. If you're a vegan and find AJ's a convenient option, I just hope you aren't young. -support local business. He technically is one but hardly matches the competition's atmosphere, prices or quality. If you want a show or food/drink, go somewhere else. As a local who has gone to AJ's many times and never had a positive experience besides his price for shows ($5, which is absolutely great), I say skip AJ's.
