I've had multiple MRI's at all of the Michigan Medicine facilities. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had. The woman who took me into the machine was one of the rudest employees I have interacted with at U of M. She was cold and uncaring and wouldn't assist me with my disabilities, not even assisting me with getting into the dressing room or on the table. I have spasticity so even transferring from the wheelchair can be difficult at times. She also left a big bruise on my arm from the IV from multiple attempts at finding a vein. This facility has the old style small tube MRIs so if you are at all claustrophobic you'll want to choose a different facility, especially since you have to wear a mask at all times in the machine.

Getting a lumber spine mri at this location was a horrible experience. They put me in the tiny tube head first for my lower back which was unnecessary when other mri machines allow you to go feet first. The not so nice lady said I had to keep my mask on inside the machine (even though no one is in the room). I knew that was going to be a huge problem for me. They put me deep into the machine & the ceiling was only a couple inches from my nose. It felt like I was in a casket being buried alive. To make matters worse, the machine heated up to the point I was sweating. I could not breathe even though I took deep breaths. I'm not normally anxious or claustrophobic but I was both & right from the start with 25 minutes to go. Though against the rules, I pulled down my mask so I could breathe. Still I struggled to breathe. Having a full blown anxiety attack, I pressed the button for time out but the lady wouldn't let me out. I was stuck, locked in. She said there was only 3 minutes left. Those were the longest, hottest, most claustrophic & anxious minutes of my life. When I finally got out, the lady said I did good. No, I did not do good. I told her it was hell. Next time, I will insist on being heavily sedated or I will refuse the procedure altogether. I highly recommend getting an mri somewhere else where the machine has a larger compartment, allows you to go feet first (unless scanning your head), is well lit, well ventilated & open on both ends. Bring your own quality ear plugs because the ones they provide do not work and the machine is louder than a jack hammer. I do not wish this horrible experience on my worst enemy.
