I have had the pleasure of working with Dan each summer I have had the ability to work with him when I come home from college for break. I have learned many things with Dan but the most important thing he has taught me has been " do it right or not at all". His remarkable work ethic and uncanny ability to make something out of nothing is impeccable. His work is quality and his word are the two things he lives by. This is a situation I've never been in before. I grew up with this contractor, I hired him to change my front door, tile my front hallway, and paint my front hallway. I gave him a deposit and he started the job, as the job seemed to progress I added onto the scope including building a closet, hardwood floors in my 2nd floor hallway and redoing my stairs and railing to the 2nd floor. This project started in October. As he said he needed more money I gave it to him. He slowly stopped showing up, and when he did show up he never put in a full day and pent more time smoking weed than working. After not seeing him for nearly a month right before Christmas he once again said he needed more money even though not 1 portion of the projects he started was complete. My wife paid him another $1500 cleaning out our savings account. After receiving our payment he didn't show up for another month. He finally showed and did 1/2 of the installation of the bedroom & bathroom doors on the 2nd floor which was an add on. Weeks later, when my family and I were out of state for the weekend he came back finished the doors and took apart the temporary railing on the 2nd floor and sent me a text that he was going to complete the railing the next day. My wife was notified by her sister that Dan left the kitchen window open and tripped the circuit breaker with his tools which also powered our fridge and never reset it. My wife immediately sent him a message telling him that's not OK. He replied back saying "then get someone else to finish the work in this S*#t hole, I'm done". He took all his tools which have been in my basement for moths and left. I sent him a message asking what was going on and he replied back telling how disgusting my house was, basically because my son didn't do the kitty litter before we left. Myself and my wife gave 6 kids so as you could imagine it's difficult to keep are house in order all of the time. I did my best to coordinate with him with regards to when he was going to be there so I could be sure everything was clean, however, he very rarely showed up when he said he was going to making it very difficult to be sure everything was spotless. After him telling me how gross & disgusting my house was I told him his wife must be proud of him basically stealing from a family of 8 and he responded back that if I sent him another text he was going to send pictures he took to DCF & press charges on my for harassment. So now I have to hire another contractor to finish all the different projects he started, after I already emptied my savings account paying this guy. I forgot to mention at the beginning of all this he asked me to buy him a table saw which ran up almost $400, which he said he would credit that back to me which never happened. So now I have to pay more money on top of what I already paid to get my projects completed. He made extremely good money for someone didn't complete any of the projects, and he has a new table saw which I paid for and we'll be getting home tonight not having any type of rail in the 2nd floor hallway, which I'm gonna need do something with that ASAP so my 6 year old son doesn't fall as he runs around like 6 year old do. I'm seriously considering taking legal action. If you value your money and want your projects completed DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!!
