A fantastic place for a date. The cheese fondue is only outdone by the chocolate. Who knew that chocolate covered grapes would be amazing? Only disappointing thing was the beer selection, with Amstel and Heineken, two of the worst imports out there. And I know it's call "The Wine Cellar" so I shouldn't be too picky.

Confusing menu and amateurish staff. Food was not pleasant and way too salty. Dishes were served out of order. Tables too small for the necessary sprawl of a fondue meal.

I was a bit confused with my bar experience at the Cellar. A mix between a pirate's cove with rock covered walls, "Yar, the Cellar" and a wine cellar, yeah it is really downstairs. The vibe was pretty chill, almost like being in a cafe with a young hip crowd of art school kids as well as the opposite of what may have been ex-theater leaguers ( very dramatic convos going on there). The drinks weren't particular impressive or particularly expensive. A favorite "Whiskey and Ginger" was under $8 and served in a small juice glass disappointing to the eye, but not to the taste with half of it being alcohol. Yohoho! Just like the location (between Central and Harvard) my overall experience, was in between pleasant and dull. Even though, the place was packed (we must have been breaking some fire hazard safety code), we found a seat relatively fast. Fries smelled delicious with herb season on what appeared to be a McDonalds style cut. The Cellar might be the right location for a week night drink. For a Fri and Sa seemed rather dull and could have more luck either in Central or Harvard.

Finally ate here, after years of walking by and wondering! Foodwise, the cheese fondue was great -- maybe the best I've had in Boston. Strong and tasty and the potatoes and bread kept coming till we scooped the last of the Gruyere out of the pot. We went for salads instead of meat fondue, saving room for chocolate -- which was good but more in the sense of "well, it's hard to screw up dipping fruit in chocolate" and less in the way of "out-of-the-ordinary awesome". In spite of having only odd times available online, we were one of only two occupied tables (and were seated right next to the other folks.) If you'd like to eat after 5:30 or before 8:30, maybe forgo opentable in favor of calling or just showing up?

Awesome cheese fondue just like in France, the owner is French and most of the staff is French-speaking.
