Park across the street at Newton Boathouse parking. It's annoying to walk over the bridge but the parking lot is really big. You can only go down stream so much, but it's really nice area through Watertown and ending in Waltham by the watch factory. If you go up river, it's pretty gross going under all these highways but then you hit Wellesley and then Needham and have a really long stretch of untouched river, well sheltered so usually pristine conditions, in a very quiet area. I would honestly recommend going this way especially if you don't want to deal with other people. Price for kayak rental is $40 with tax but it's all you can eat, so you could be out there all day. You can also just bring your own gear and launch from here.

Parking is the big problem as it is across the river.

Paddle Boston did a great job with establishing safety protocols before opening in 2020. I advise everyone to buy a seasons pass which is a great bargain and saves you the hassle to compete waivers every time. I like the way they established 3 stations to get through safely and the young people working there are always friendly and professional.

No hassle, just go pay, sign and grab a Kayak. Parking is across the bridge which looks so far but, easy to reach.
